A 24-hour vigil was underway Monday to remember Chicago police officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

It's taking place at the Gold Star Families Memorial and Park near Soldier Field until midnight.

CPD First Deputy Superintendent Al Wysinger placed a wreath there Monday afternoon.

According to the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, 562 officers have given their lives for the city.

The Police Honor Guard will help anyone who would like to place their own wreath at the memorial.
