New York City's bike share program puts limit on weight

NEW YORK

The bikes apparently can't safely support anyone heavier. Many cyclists we spoke with don't buy it.

The program will allow people to rent a bike in one location and return it to one of several other locations throughout New York City.

Although the Department of Transportation insists there are no plans to enforce the weight restriction, critics say it's ironic that the Bloomberg administration, famous for its war on obesity, would discourage overweight people from using its bike-share program.

Some cyclists are proposing a compromise. Suggesting the city provide a limited number of more substantial bikes for those who don't qualify for the standard ones.
