Disney pulls out of Bangladesh factory production

May 3, 2013

The company sent a letter in March, before last week's building collapse in Bangladesh, where as many as 500 people were killed. Officials say 150 people are still missing.

In the letter, Disney said it planned to stop production of its merchandise in the "highest-risk countries," including Ecuador, Venezuela, Belarus, and Pakistan by April 2014.

"After much thought and discussion we felt this was the most responsible way to manage the challenges associated with our supply chain," said Bob Chapek, president of Disney Consumer Products.
