Men under 55 don't need PSA screening test, experts say

May 3, 2013

The American Urological Association, which has defended the PSA screening test in the past, now says there is no need for men under 55 to consider the test.

This puts the group's new message in line with similar recommendations issued nearly a year ago by a government task force.

Here is what the association is advising:

PSA screening is not recommended for men at average risk under age 54 or over age 70.

Those who are 55-to-60 considering PSA screening should consult their doctors about the benefits and risks.
