Thousands run, walk for ovarian cancer awareness

Thousands of people took part in a run and walk Saturday morning on the South Side to 'Break the Silence' about ovarian cancer.

Organizers say 20,000 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer this year.

Getting diagnosed early improves the odds of survival, but there is no effective screening for the disease.

The purpose of Saturday's run and walk was to raise awareness and money for research.

ABC7's Stacey Baca and her sister Lynn cheered on the runners. Lynn is an ovarian cancer survivor.
