Don Farnham, Sr. was a cameraman for ABC7 and ABC Sports.
He served with the Marines at Iwo Jima during World War Two.
He attended Monday's annual Memorial Day program in Guthrie Park.
Farnham received an award from the village of Riverside for his military service during the war.
"I accept this award, honored, on behalf of those soldiers who died on the battlefield defending our country," said Farnham. "They gave their futures so that we could have ours."
There was a sacred naval wreath-laying ceremony to honor prisoners of war and those missing in action as well as a 21-gun salute.
