Those counties include Benton, Jasper and Newton in Indiana and Ford, Grundy, Iroquois, Kankakee, La Salle, Lee, Livingston and Will in Illinois.

The severe weather started early afternoon on Tuesday, and led to rain and lightning overnight into Wednesday morning. Some flights are experience delays of up to an hour at O'Hare International Airport. No delays were reported at Midway Airport.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered thunderstorms will strike central Illinois Tuesday afternoon. Some of those storms could be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail, heavy rainfall and lightning.

The potential for rain comes as ComEd works to restore 73,000 customers that are still without power after Monday's strong storm raced through the Chicago area during the afternoon rush hour. At the height of the storm, 167,000 customers were in the dark.

The National Weather Service warns that flooding could continue along some downstate rivers.
