Reading time required during Chicago Park District Summer Camp

Monday marked the first day of the Chicago Park District's Summer Camp. The city says there is a new addition to the program this year.

For the first time, there will be 30 minutes of reading during camp for each child every day.

City officials hope that the move will help children keep and enhance their skills for the beginning of the new school year.

It is part of the city's Summer of Learning initiative, which makes it mandatory for all summer programs to include a learning component in daily activities.
