Bronzeville fire causes roof collapse, damages businesses

July 2, 2013 (CHICAGO)

The fire broke out late Monday at a commercial building in the 300-block of East Pershing, causing a roof collapse and destroying several businesses.

Approximately 200 firefighters were called to the scene.

After many hours of battling the blaze, firefighters were able to put it out at approximately 4 a.m.

One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

A restaurant, a cell phone store, and a barber shop were among the businesses damaged.

"I don't know now, if I can open the business again," said Musa Abuzanha, who told ABC7 Chicago he had owned his restaurant for five years.

Fire officials said they were trying to determine what caused the fire.
