Deadline for flood aid applications extended to July 24

July 2. 2013 (RELEASE) (SPRINGFIELD, Ill.)

The state's appeal of the federal government's denial of aid to people in Putnam and Warren counties was also approved today, bringing the total number of counties eligible for individual assistance to 35. The appeal noted that more flood damage was recently discovered, including seven additional homes in Putnam County and 14 additional homes in Warren County.

"I appreciate the Obama Administration's quick action on our request to extend the deadline as well as our appeal to add Putnam and Warren counties in the declaration," Governor Pat Quinn said. "With more than 1,000 people still registering for federal aid each day, there are many people who really need this help. This 15-day extension will ensure that residents who most need federal disaster aid have the opportunity to apply. I urge anyone who was affected by flooding between April 16 and May 5 to register now."

To date, more than 49,300 applications for disaster aid have been approved with more than $122.4 million in grants awarded to help people with flood-related expenses. In addition, the U.S. Small Business Administration has approved $25.4 million in disaster assistance loans. Governor Pat Quinn sought federal aid after historic flooding affected nearly half of the state. In addition to Putnam and Warren, other counties approved for federal disaster aid for people and households include Brown, Bureau, Calhoun, Clark, Cook, Crawford, DeKalb, Douglas, DuPage, Fulton, Grundy, Henderson, Henry, Kane, Kendall, Knox, Lake, LaSalle, Livingston, Marshall, Mason, McDonough, McHenry, Peoria, Pike, Rock Island, Schuyler, Stark, Tazewell, Whiteside, Will, Winnebago and Woodford.
