Fourth of July picnic foods may cost more than in 2012

July 3, 2013

Ribs, burgers, steaks, chicken, even fresh fruit will cost more than last year, thanks to last year's drought.

Overall beef prices are nearly 2 percent higher compared to last year.

Poultry prices are up nearly six percent.

You can save a little money by doing some of the prep work yourself.

It's a lot cheaper to buy a whole chicken and cut it up rather than buy pre-cut chicken.

And there's also good news if you eat pork.

Pork prices are well below those of 2012 because of a decline in exports and increased hog production.
