Study: Physical punishment in childhood can affect health

July 15, 2013

Researchers from the University of Manitoba say their study shows kids who were punished by shoving, slapping or pushing were more likely to be obese.

They published the findings in the journal "Pediatrics."

And adults who reported being physically punished sometimes were more likely to be diagnosed with a chronic health condition- compared to those who were never physically punished.

Previous studies had shown these children were also more likely to suffer from depression and anxiety.
