Twenty young people from a Joliet church left for Brazil Saturday, where they will celebrate their faith and the new pope.

Father Rommel Perez says next week's World Youth Day will be a great experience. He's leading the group from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

Pope Francis will attend. Those participating are excited to see him, but it's not the only thing they're looking forward to.

"Seeing so many people from all around the world, just being there," Fr. Perez said. "All of us with the same belief, the same faith and trying to become better people. I just want to learn new things about god and bring back to the teenagers over here what we learned and just make a difference for them."

World Youth Day is the first international journey for the pope since his election in March.
