Ride to Remember benefits families of fallen police officers

July 28, 2013 (CHICAGO)

The ride took off from Harrison and Kedzie. Fortunately, rain that was falling early Sunday stopped in time for the start of the big event at 9 a.m.

At 8 a.m., the riders, including police officers, family members, friends and members of the public, were lining up and gearing up. This is the ninth year for the Chicago Police Area Four Ride to Remember.

Proceeds from this ride benefit the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.

"I think it has to do with what we're trying to do. We're trying to remember the officers who have been killed in the line of duty, their families. I think the public sees that, and I think they come out to help us out with that," said event organizer Sgt. John Roberts.

After leaving from Kedzie and Harrison, the riders headed for Gold Star Memorial Park near Soldier Field for more celebrations.
