New law allows disabled student-athletes to skip physical education classes

July 28, 2013 (CHICAGO)

Governor Pat Quinn signed the bill into law Sunday at McFetridge Park. Student-athletes without disabilities already can be excused from physical education classes.

The impetus for the change came from Tyler Woodworth, a disabled hockey player who wanted to opt out of physical education classes in favor of other courses to better prepare for college.
