An annual CT scan may be the best way to detect lung cancer.

The U.S. Preventative Services Task Force says annual scans in current and former smokers decreased lung cancer deaths by 14 percent.

It says even with smoking on the decline, more than one in three American smokes or used to smoke.

Lung cancer is the third most common type of cancer in America and one of the deadliest.
