The City of Evanston is painting trees blue to remind people how devastating the emerald ash borer can be.

The trees along Sheridan Road have been infested and are scheduled to be removed. But until they are, the city is using them to raise awareness.

The emerald ash borer is an invasive species. According to the city, they've already wiped out more than 2,000 ash trees in Evanston.

The trees are scheduled for removal on August 24.
