NYC Dominican Day Parade marches up 6th Avenue

NEW YORK

The 32nd annual march went up Sixth Avenue from 37th Street to 52nd Street.

Candidates including Bill Thompson and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn have made appearances. Quinn was a clear crowd favorite, getting hugs and cheers from the crowds.

Eliot Spitzer, running for city comptroller, also marched, getting some cheers.

The candidates are all seeking the city's significant Hispanic vote. Hispanic residents represent nearly 30 percent of the city's population.

Organizers say voter registration efforts were taking place at the parade as well.

This year, the parade features Raul Acosta and his band Oro Solido, and Latin pop sensation Matt Hunter.
