Back-to-school immunizations

August 15, 2013

Vaccinations are available to protect youth against 16 serious and potentially life threatening diseases, and many are required before students can begin classes. The state's vaccination requirements are available at http://www.idph.state.il.us/about/pgci.htm.

Talking Points:
1. Healthy students are better able to learn in school.
2. Physical, dental and vision exams and immunizations are required for most students going back to school this fall. Contact your healthcare provider to schedule an appointment.
3. For the first time, this year, every 6th through 12th grader will need to show proof of having received one dose of the T-dap (whooping cough vaccine).
4. CDPH is hosting free immunization clinics (call 311 or go to www.cityofchicago.org/health)
