For the first time in three years, the Chicago Police Department will accept applications from people wanting to join the force.

On Friday afternoon, recruits took part in training at the police academy.

There will be an open house there Saturday for people interested in getting more information about the process of applying.

It's open to the public. Those who show up will see demonstrations about a variety of specialties in the department.

They can also sign up for the police exam on-site.

The open house was scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Education and Training Division Academy at 1300 West Jackson.
