Heading into its 26th season in national syndication, top morning talk show "LIVE with Kelly and Michael" continues the Emmy Award-winning "LIVE" franchise's remarkable run as one of television's outstanding success stories. Co-hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan soon will celebrate the one-year anniversary of their partnership, which has taken the program to the top of the entertainment talk show ratings this season.
"LIVE" originated in 1983 with former host Regis Philbin and WABC's "The Morning Show," and soon became the number one show in the market. Kathie Lee Gifford joined Philbin in June 1985 and in September 1988, the program debuted in national syndication and the title was changed to "Live with Regis & Kathie Lee." After Gifford left the show in 2000, Philbin kept the momentum going on "LIVE! with Regis." Kelly Ripa joined the show in 2001 and the program was re-christened "LIVE! with Regis and Kelly." After Philbin's 2011 departure, Ripa successfully helmed "LIVE! with Kelly" with a series of guest co-hosts before Michael Strahan signed on in September of 2012.
Early on, "LIVE" matched its local success with extraordinary national ratings and established itself as a dominant fixture in national television, a tradition that continues today. It remains an essential stop for the top names in the entertainment industry. From award-winning actors to the hottest musical acts, the show has boasted A-list celebrity guests, top-notch performances and one-of-a-kind segments that are unrivaled on daytime television. The show's signature opening "Host Chat" is spontaneous, hilarious and unpredictable, and regular features showcasing fashion, food, health and more keep the audience entertained while keeping them up-to-date on the latest lifestyle trends.
