High waves, rip currents expected along Lake Michigan in Illinois, NW Indiana

September 5, 2013 (CHICAGO)

The National Weather Service says high waves and rip currents are creating dangerous conditions.

It's advising people to avoid beaches until Friday morning.

Winds could produce waves from three to six feet high along the shore in Illinois and northwest Indiana.

Chicago beaches have closed for the season, so there are no lifeguards on duty.
