Registration is open for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Chicago's second annual Friends of the Poor 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, September 28, 2013, in Lincoln Park.

The event raises money for the Society, so it can help those in need in Cook and Lake counties. The race will also feature a collection box for shoe donations, which will go to the St. Vincent de Paul thrift stores. You can also donate shoes at four New Balance Chicago locations. Those who donate shoes get a coupon for 10% off on the purchase of new shoes at New Balance Chicago.

Bill Soucie, President of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and Brent Cunningham, New Balance Chicago Charity Ambassador, came into our ABC7 studio to tell us about the event and the cause.
