Roosevelt University Latin Jazz Ensemble

The Roosevelt University Latin Jazz ensemble directed by percussionist Ruben Alvarez is one of the few collegiate Latin jazz ensembles offered in the Chicago Area. The ensemble's primary objective is to teach the historical development of Latin jazz, to develop student performance proficiency on traditional Afro-Latin percussion instruments, rhythms, and musical styles, and to develop a repertoire based on traditional and contemporary arrangements of these musical styles. Just this past September, the Latin Jazz Ensemble performed at the Chicago Jazz Festival, a huge accomplishment for these budding musicians.
