Appeal of police torture conviction to stay in Cook Co.

September 27, 2013 (CHICAGO)

That's the decision from chief judge Timothy Evans, who says Stanley Wrice's case can get a fair hearing in the county.

Wrice's attorney and his supporters say that's going to be difficult because all county judges have ties to former Mayor Daley and appellate court judge Bertina Lampkin, who have been subpoenaed to testify in the case.

"Now I'm having a hard time personally imaging how a mayor of Chicago over two decades, who was also a state's attorney for a decade will not create a conflict of interest for any judge of Cook County, but I'm open minded," said David Protess, Chicago Innocence Project.

Recently a judge said because of a conflict of interest she would not hear Wrice's appeal.
