Blind swimmers complete Annual Alcatraz Invitational in SF

SAN FRANCISCO

The three young swimmers became the first blind group ever to swim in the invitational.

They jumped off Alcatraz early Sunday morning and began negotiating their way across 1.5 miles of water to the Hyde Street Pier.

Their achievement sends a great message.

"No matter what, you can do anything anyone else can do," blind swimmer Max Ashton said. "I just swam Alcatraz. Most people in the world can't, so you can do whatever."

They want to prove that vision loss is just a diagnosis, not a disability.
