3 teens shot near Merril Park in South Deering on city's South Side

Three teenagers are hospitalized after a shooting near a park in the South Deering neighborhood.

The teenagers were on the basketball courts at Merill Playground Park, 2100-block of E. 97th Street, on Tuesday at 9 p.m. when they were shot. No suspects are in custody, police said.

Two of the teens, 15- and 16-years old, are at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn while the third boy, 16, is at University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital. All three were wounded in their legs and are in serious to critical condition, hospital offiicials said.

"I had just went in the house, talking to my brother, and I would say two minutes later we heard all eight shots. I came out here, because my nephew was walking through the park with his friends. When I got out here, that's when I saw the kids laying there," Haywood Three weeks ago, 13 people, including a 3-year-old boy, were shot while at a park in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.
