Coalition calls to strengthen anti-pollution standards

October 3, 2013 (CHICAGO)

The call for action came at the site of the Fisk and Crawford power plants.

The plants were closed down a year ago and were powered by coal.

"We're calling on USEPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency) to quickly finalize strong pollution standards for carbon from new power plants and to proceed directly to limit carbon pollution for the rest of the coal fleet around the country," said Steve Frenkel, Union of Concerned Scientists.

The groups claim that carbon pollution has had a direct effect on the health and well-being of Chicago communities.
