A 44-year-old woman has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of her 68-year-old cousin.

Amy L. Zuniga is currently under police guard at an Aurora hospital.

At around 1:40 a.m. Friday, officers responded to a home in the 800 block of Front St., on Aurora's near east side for a call of a possible suicidal woman. Police say Zuniga directed them to the basement, where they found the woman's cousin laying on the floor with a knife in his chest.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say they believe that after stabbing her cousin, the woman approached her husband with a knife and attempted to stab him. A struggle ensued and the man was able to wrestle the knife away from her, but in doing so, was cut in the buttocks.
