A 21-year-old DePaul student walking in Lincoln Park Wednesday night was struck in the head by a person walking the opposite direction, a university alert said.

Around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, the female student was walking westbound on Altgeld near Sheffield while the offender was walking eastbound. The offender then struck the victim in the head with a blunt object and fled eastbound. The victim was taken by ambulance to Illinois Masonic Hospital, where she was treated for a head injury.

The suspect did not try to rob the woman, police said. The university notified the community by sending out an email and posting alerts on the front doors of campus buildings.

Anyone with information is asked to call Chicago police at 311 or DePaul Public Safety at 773-325-7777.
