A 73-year-old man who said he and his wife had been evicted and needed money is now charged with robbing a Loop bank.

An off- duty police officer who was working security reportedly spotted Roosevelt Gordon just after he received a surveillance photo from an attempted robbery. According to the FBI, the officer followed him. When additional officers arrived, he confronted Gordon.

A short time later, Gordon was arrested and confessed, police said. He is charged with robbing a BMO Harris Branch on West Monroe.
