Hugh Hill: Life in Pictures

Hill died last week at the age of 89.

Hill's booming voice demanded to be heard in the world of TV political reporters.

"If there is one thing that is clear from Hugh Hill's life: he didn't do anything half-way," Father Thomas Milota, pastor at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

When Chicago and Illinois politicians spoke, Hill was looking over their shoulders and asking what the public wanted to know. But beyond his bold TV persona, Hill had a tender heart, especially for his family of five children, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

"He adored his family," Jim Hill, Hugh Hill's brother, said. "to love would not be enough, he adored them. He gave his life for them. He enjoyed them. All of them."

Hill's ABC7 family was also at the funeral. ABC7 reporter and friend Frank Mathie spoke.

"All these stories and you wonder - why do we love Hugh Hill? Because, on the outside, he was as rough as the west coast of Ireland. But inside, as soft and warm as Irish oatmeal," Mathie said.
