The Bordentown Regional School Disctrict's winter concerts will not feature any religious music this year.
The district's website says some of its musical selections at the elementary schools led to a legal review, and that's what prompted the decision.
Some parents support the ban, while others feel it goes too far.
"We're not happy about it," dad Joe Sergio said. "We're all celebrating holidays together, you know, whether you celebrate Kwanza or Hanukkah or Christmas, it's our holiday. It's been around forever. It's our tradition."
"Just to be on the safe side," mom Jill Dick said. "Could be offensive to other parents, families, because there's so many different religions out there."
There was a similar ban at a different New Jersey school after a lawsuit in 2004.
In that case, a judge ruled it was up to public school administrators to determine which songs are appropriate.
