4-alarm brush fire contained in Long Branch

LONG BRANCH, N.J.

Fire departments from six neighboring towns, including Red Bank, Union Beach and Rumson, assisted in battling the blaze.

The fire broke out at about 1:30 Wednesday afternoon at the city's recycling center on Atlantic Avenue.

Firefighters are using foam to suppress the flames from a pile of leaves and twigs 300 feet by 150 feet and 25 feet high.

They are still putting out hot spots.

Authorities say no structures were compromised, and there have been no injuries.

Officials say the dry conditions recently have contributed to the large fire.
