California lawmakers accepting pay raises

It's the first pay raise for the legislature in six years.

The independent commission that sets pay and benefits has decided to give a 5.3 percent increase, giving a boost to lawmakers whose salary was cut during the recession.

The base pay will now be $95,200 a year. However, eight legislators have told the state controller that they will turn down the extra money.

Some lawmakers say a raise will contribute to the already low perception of state government.
