100th Christmas tree lighting held at Daley Plaza

Chicago celebrated the 100th anniversary of the city's Christmas tree with a lighting ceremony at Daley Plaza Tuesday.

Chicago celebrated the 100th anniversary of the city's Christmas tree with a lighting ceremony at Daley Plaza Tuesday.

The 57-foot Colorado blue spruce was lit with 51,000 lights on Tuesday night.

The free event begins at 5 p.m. with live performances followed by the lighting at 6 p.m. The Christkindl Market also opened Tuesday at Daley Plaza.

The 100th anniversary Christmas tree was donated by the Moore family from South Holland, Ill.
