Canadian artist Emily Carr's painting, The Crazy Stair, broke auction records at fine art auction in Toronto.

The painting sold for $3.39 million, the most ever paid for a work by a female Canadian artist.

Carr died in 1945 at the age of 74.

"The Crazy Stair" was expected to go for at least $2.2 million.

A passionate bidding war drove the price up. The buyer of the piece chose to remain anonymous.
