Attempted child abduction on Chicago's Southwest Side

Chicago police issued a community alert after a child was grabbed by a stranger in the 3500-block of West Cermak.

The offender approached the 14-year-old girl on the street around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in North Lawndale. He spoke with her, and then grabbed her from behind, according to reports. She told police the offender said she should come with him.

The girl was able to break free from the man's grip and run inside a store for help.

The offender fled down Drake Street from Cermak.

Officials say the man is Hispanic, 17-21 years old, 5'3" to 5'5" and weighs 125 to 135 pounds. He has a medium completion, narrow face and pointed chin and nose. Anyone with information should call detectives at (312) 747-8380.
