Doctors in China have reattached a man's severed hand after keeping it alive for a month by attaching it to his leg.

The 25-year-old man had his right hand sawed off in a drilling accident.

The damage was too severe to reattach his hand immediately, so surgeons grafted it onto his ankle to keep it alive as his other injuries healed.

The man will undergo several more operations as well as rehabilitation therapy to restore his hand's function.
