Chicago selling surplus material; Police patrol boats, scrap metal sold in online auctions

The City of Chicago says it's upping its game in selling more surplus material than it had gotten rid of in previous years.

Items sold include decommissioned police patrol boats, industrial snow melting equipment and 500 tons of scrap metal.

The material is sold in online auctions.

The city says it has collected more than $10 million in the sales since 2011.

That's more than twice what had been received in the previous three years.
