Russian astronauts complete 3rd spacewalk in a week at ISS

December 27, 2013 (MOSCOW)

Oleg Kotov and Sergei Ryazansky placed the high-resolution cameras early in the venture that began Friday. But the cameras were not able to transmit data to Russian Mission Control, and the astronauts were told to remove them and bring them inside the orbiting laboratory for inspection.

It was the third spacewalk in a week at the orbiting laboratory. U.S. astronauts Rick Mastracchio and Michael Hopkins performed two on last Saturday and Tuesday to remove and replace a faulty cooling pump.

The Russians' tasks also included replacing equipment that records and transmits telemetric data about seismological conditions. The spacewalk lasted eight hours and seven minutes, setting a new Russian record.
