Police say Josephine Coleman of Country Club Hills was on her way to San Antonio Texas when an x-ray machine detected the weapon in her carry-on bag.
The gun was loaded with seven live rounds, according to the arrest report.
Coleman allegedly told airport officials that she didn't know the weapon was in the bag and that she was in the military and had a FOID card, which she did.
She was still charged with trying to board an aircraft with a weapon, which is a felony.
