Firefighter injured in South Side fire; Three dogs killed in blaze on South Justine

January 5, 2014 (CHICAGO)

The fire broke out in the 5400-block of South Justine.

At the time, no one who lived in the building was home.

One hydrant was frozen, but firefighters were quickly able to use another hydrant.

"The cold weather did play a bit of a part, just getting the apparatus down the snowy street, and dealing with a frozen hydrant," said Larry Langford, Chicago Fire Department.

The injured firefighter came in contact with a live wire on the way to the building. He is hospitalized in good condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
