Richard Vanecko trial in death of David Koschman to begin as scheduled

January 9, 2014 (CHICAGO)

On Thursday, a judge denied motions by defense attorneys to throw out Vanecko's involuntary manslaughter indictment in the 2004 death of 21-year-old David Koschman.

Vanecko is accused of throwing a punch during a drunken early morning encounter on Division Street and then leaving the scene.

Koschman died of head injuries 11 days later.

The defense claims a special grand jury was misled with testimony that was purposely made unfair to Vanecko. The judge did not agree.

The trial is set for February 18.
