A school nurse saved the life of a parent who suffered an apparent heart attack Friday morning outside Smyser Elementary on Chicago's Northwest Side.

The man was in his car and unresponsive. Someone saw him and alerted nurse Gina Cannella, who used a defibrillator and CPR to revive the man.

After taking him to the hospital, paramedics came back to the school.

"They told me his wife was in tears, so elated," Cannella said. "She said, 'Make sure you tell her thank you.'"

Cannella says it's a great feeling.

The former cardiac nurse says everyone should learn CPR.
