Chicago Blackhawks honor local service members; 'Welcome Home Weekend' guests watch win over Bruins in suite hosted by legend Denis Savard

January 19, 2014 (CHICAGO)

Nearly two dozen service men and women were given the VIP treatment at Sunday's game at the United Center.

They watched the Blackhawks beat the Bruins in an overtime shootout in a suite hosted by Blackhawks legend Denis Savard.

For these service members given the star treatment at the game is something special.

"This is awesome, this is fantastic," said Staff Sgt. Bryan Spreitzer. "I've never been treated like a rock star before, it's pretty sweet.

"I really appreciate the USO putting us up here, it's absolutely great," Capt. Tristan Myers said. "It's great to be home. Really, that's the best part, that's kind of the icing on the cake."

The Blackhawks and USO Illinois say Sunday's "Welcome Home Weekend" event is just one way to say thank you to our troops for their bravery.
