A 16-year-old Texas girl is recovering after falling 3,500 feet during a skydiving accident.

Makenzie Wethington is in the critical care unit at a hospital in Oklahoma City with broken bones in her back and vertebrae and two broken ribs.

Her family says she goes in and out of consciousness and remembers bits and pieces of her horrifying experience.

The teen was on her first skydive on Saturday, alone, when her father says only half of the parachute opened.

The owner of the skydiving center places some of the blame on Wethington, saying she didn't follow the training she received.

The skydiving outing was a sweet sixteen birthday present.
