The all-girls Catholic high school has been educating young women for 63 years in southwest suburban Lemont and has a long history and deep-rooted support from current and former students.
Students have already set up a Facebook page called Save Mount Assisi Academy, and alums are launching a fundraising effort. However, school administrators said they have implemented stop-gap solutions for years, so even if the money comes through that's no guarantee the school will remain open.
"I don't have a yes or no answer," Sister Therese Ann Quigney, provincial superior, said.
Administrators have said they will help students transition to new schools.
