Chicago will receive a $3 million grant from the Beverage Foundation for a Healthy America for wellness competition, the mayor's office said.

Mayor Emanuel said Chicago will receive a $3-million grant from the Beverage Foundation for a Healthy America after winning a wellness competition.

The mayor's office said the competition challenged employees to show improvement in key health measurements including Body-Mass Index, smoking cessation and other areas.

The grant will be used to further expand the Chicago Lives Healthy program, according to the mayor's office and will create convenient locations for biometric screenings and offer educational opportunities for people working to regulate their blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and provide enhanced computer access to employees looking to track their wellness progress.
