Junkyard fire puts firefighters in 'defensive attack'

A fire caused major damage to a Southwest Side auto junk yard early Friday morning.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire near 33rd and South Kostner Avenue. No one was hurt.

As of 6:30 a.m., crews reported heavy flames and additional engines were requested, according to dispatch reports.

Firefighters were in a "defensive attack" as of 6:45 a.m., fire media said.
